10 Things You Should Know

Like waiting for a baby, there are lots of things you have to go through in a home renovation or new build, before you can get that bundle of joy.

The following rules are a guide intended to highlight pitfalls where projects can fall off track so we can try to steer clear of these from the outset.

Create a Budget

Without clear financial parameters it is difficult to plan your project effectively.

With an agreed budget in mind (and in writing) we will be out of the gate and on the right track from the get-go.

2

Decide on Details as a Family

I love sifting through the opinions and preferences of all decision-makers in our discovery phase.  Switching directions in the middle of a project is a little more difficult to manage.  Getting your entire family on the same page when your project begins means that I can work to translate your collective vision in to reality.

3

Commit to the Scope of Work

I use my detailed eye to define project parameters at the outset that will deliver against your initial brief.  Using the scope of work in my Fee Proposal as a navigation tool, enables us to accurately slay timeframes and deadlines from the beginning.  While I love it when clients add to existing projects, it is also important to understand that adding to the scope of work means adding to the project budget and design fees.

4

Make Confident Choices

I understand that making detailed decisions can be stressful, but I am here to make it easier.  My role isn’t only to help you to create your perfect space, but to also be your sounding board.  Be confident in your vision as we move through the process and if you are unsure of anything speak up.  These days we are surrounded by visual inspiration through social media and clients can be forever falling in love with different ideas that may not work with your project.  Remember we are making decisions that anchor to the aesthetic direction we have agreed upon and that you loved for your project.  Changes in decision and aesthetic direction can result in unnecessary delays and charges.

5

Be a Great Team Mate

We become a team the minute a contract is signed.  This means mutual respect is agreed upon from the start from honest, respectful communication, to reliably attending regularly scheduled meetings, and sticking to timelines.  Working closely together with the same goals and gravitas for your project is paramount to project success.

6

Trust the Process

My interior design process has been developed and refined based on many different projects I have been through with clients.  Working to this process enables your project to run smoothly and efficiently with minimal deviations.  Know that I always have your best interests in mind whether we are creating the building "canvas", layering in the colour and detail, or adding the finishing touches, (and every step in between!)

7

Stay Invested

There are an overwhelming amount of decisions to be made in a new build or renovation and it can be difficult to stay focused when conceptualising your dream space.  Don’t get pulled down by distraction.  Be present for meetings and conversations.  Invest in your project with focus and determination.  As long as we all stay intentional about your perfect end result we can’t go wrong.

8

Email Me

With so many details and decisions it is imperative to have one form of communication.  I have found that email is the best channel for client communication.   It helps with the project's overall organisation which is important to keep your project on budget.

9

Avoid Going Rogue on Purchases & Timelines

When clients make purchases outside of our agreement or return signed purchase order contracts or paid invoices late, the entire project is affected.  Late contracts and payments mean an elongated timeline which can result in additional charges.  You are welcome to make purchases for your space outside of our collaboration, however it is best if you wait and share your ideas at the point when we are working through concepts, because otherwise they may not work either visually or logistically as intended in our overall plan.

Have a Great Time!

This one is a true must (and rarely ever an issue).  I have found that my passion to create spaces to be lived in, loved and that feel authentically you, combined with your vision for your ideal home and lifestyle always results in something beautiful.  And we do have fun along the way!
